There and Back for $10

Despite its relative remoteness, Jackson Hole is easy to get to. Its popularity means the airport is well connected with the most popular carriers in the US–which means using points and miles to get there is a breeze.

For example, you can get there using United for just 15,000 miles and $5.60. That’s getting you from somewhere like New York and back for ten bucks. That’s a crazy good deal.

To have those points handy, you could open this business card and hit the $8,000 spending goal within three months of opening. Once you’ve done that, 100,000 miles will drop into your account–enough to make a roundtrip to Jackson Hole three times.

Not bad for a bit of end-of-year spending.

| JACKSON HOLE FAST FACTS

🦌 Oh deer: Jackson Hole’s town square boasts four massive arches made of deer antlers. Each weighs 12,000 pounds and contains over 2,000 antlers.

🌳 Big on green: The nearby Bridger-Teton National Forest is the largest in the United States, clocking in at over 1.5 million acres.

🗻 Mountain man: The name “Jackson Hole” is named after a mountain man named Davey Jackson. He was a trapper in the region in the 1800’s. The hole part is just another word for a deep valley surrounded by mountains.

🤠 Gun slinging since ‘55: The world's longest-running shoot-out, yes, that kind, takes place in Jackson Hole and has done so since 1955. Of course, it’s a reenactment of old frontier justice–no one actually gets hurt.

Don’t Leave It 'Til the Last Minute

As cool as you are for being the spontaneous friend who drops everything on a whim to go skiing in Jackson Hole, this is one place you might want to be a little more proactive.

During peak summer and ski seasons, hotels can fill up incredibly quickly. Booking as far in advance as possible will guarantee you the room, hotel, and price you’d want. Those last-minute rooms won’t offer much and the price might bring tears to your eyes too.

Don’t Worry About Bringing the Car

Downton Jackson Hole is pleasantly walkable, so if you’re staying in town and don’t have plans to get out and explore the country, you’re absolutely fine.

If you need to get further afield, a free shuttle service called START Bus runs every thirty minutes and hits all the important spots, from attractions and hotels to supermarkets and restaurants.

If you’re hoping to get out to explore yourself, that’s a different story. You’ll find plenty of organized tours, but you will need your own vehicle for independent exploration.

Skiing is for Everyone

Jackson Hole is renowned for its world-class skiing. Its expert runs, in particular, are bucket list items for almost every skier worth their marbles. But that reputation can intimidate those new to the sport.

Luckily, despite the more dangerous runs, over fifty percent of the skiing terrain around Jackson Hole is geared towards beginners and intermediates, so it’s fair game for skiers of all abilities. Just be careful not to go too crazy on the big slopes if you’re just getting started.

The area is loaded with outstanding cable cars and ski lifts, so getting up and down is easy, too.
