As a proud Brit, my tennis loyalties lie on Wimbledon’s green, green pastures. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t buzzing to have the mighty US Open working with us this week.

The spectacular final major of the season will set the Big Apple ablaze at the end of August, showcasing tennis giants like defending champion Iga Świątek and living legend Novak Djokovic as he chases the first men’s calendar Grand Slam in decades (assuming his Wimbledon campaign goes to plan).

Even if you’re not spellbound by the on-court magic, a New York City trip rarely leaves you disenchanted.

You might say the Open and NYC are a…Game. Set. Match made in heaven.

Had to. Sorry.

In this week’s newsletter:

  • Take in the US Open in NYC

  • The best Big Apple hotels

  • Ken’s hosting you at Barbie’s DreamHouse

Individual tickets for the 2023 US Open Are Now on Sale

Look, New York is amazing. We don’t need to sell you on that. But we think you should plan your next trip to the Big Apple around its most spectacular sporting event: The US Open.

The world’s greatest tennis players descend upon Queens on August 28th, with the final scheduled for September 10. That’s a lot of tennis and a lot of time in New York to enjoy.

Tickets are already on sale, but you’ll need to move fast if you want to snag seats for the later stages.

Wildly hailed as one of the greatest sporting theatres on the planet, sitting courtside at the Open is a thrilling spectacle. Fueled by the aura of tennis’ renowned stars; whirlwind Cinderella tales; and above all, the electric crowds ebbing and flowing with every ace, match point, and backhand winner, it’s an unforgettable experience.

This year’s tournament is the 50th anniversary of becoming the first Grand Slam to award equal prize money–a pioneering decision that helped shape a more equitable future for tennis and one that’s still as relevant today as in 1973.

Grab a day ticket or two, take a bite of the Big Apple, and take in the rush of tennis.

Book your tickets here.

From the Baseline to the High Line – IHG Hotels in NYC

The US Open explodes into action on August 28th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. If you’re trying to convince your significant other to go, don’t worry,it’s only a twenty-minute train ride from Grand Central, so you can start and end your day in the thick of the big city.

IHG ® Hotels & Resorts is the official hotel of the tournament, and saying they’re overqualified for the job is an understatement–they’ve got almost fifty properties in the city. Here’s our pick of the bunch for the Open.

🍎 InterContinental® New York Times Square

An iconic brand in the most iconic location of all. Rising (literally and figuratively) above the placid uniformity of the chain hotels swarming NYC’s tourist district, the InterContinental is a tranquil breath of luxurious air.

Generously sized guest rooms gaze down towards the Square itself or out towards Hudson Bay, while its sleek eatery and cocktail bar, The Stinger, is a crowd-pleaser before heading out on the town. Getting to the tournament is a cinch with subway stations nearby

🏙 Kimpton® Hotel Eventi

Stepping away from the chaos of Times Square and towards the endlessly cool Chelsea neighborhood is the Kimpton Hotel Eventi. Fresh from a major revamp, the Eventi’s garnering a reputation as one of the best hotels in the city.

Even standard rooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows, but their sprawling Hudson views pale in comparison to the hotel’s spectacularly design-forward communal spaces. Dripping with sophistication and owning a personality so often lacking in big brand properties, guests fall in love with its three restaurants, high-tech touches, and downright enviable location.

🎾 voco® Fiorello - LaGuardia East

For the tennis aficionado, proximity to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is a must. Tick that box with the brand new voco® Fiorello - LaGuardia East. Located just three miles from the courts, the hotel’s playful throwback airline decor is a delight and best-enjoyed  with drink in hand in the lobby cocktail bar.

Simple, but bursting with character, guest rooms are modern and comfortable, while the on-site gym helps keep you on track even while traveling. Beyond the Open, it places guests within striking distance of Mets games and Flushing Meadows, one of the lesser-explored corners of New York City.

Let Ken Host You at Barbie's DreamHouse in Malibu

If tennis isn’t your speed, maybe Barbie is. In celebration of the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse is back on Airbnb. But this time, Ken’s hosting.

While the house is still its spectacularly pink self, it’s been given a bit of facelift to match some of Ken’s aesthetics and give him some deserved time in the spotlight. In his own words, it’s bringing “some much-needed Kenergy” to the place.

The experience, like many of Airbnb’s partnerships, is a single-night stay on either July 21st or July 22nd for two people. To be in with a chance of grabbing the spots, you’ll need to be primed and ready to book at 10 am Pacific Time on July 17th. It’s first-come-first-served, so have your finger on the button a few minutes before.

On top of the stunning Malibu beachfront location, guests will also enjoy (again, in Ken’s own words):

  • Taking a spin through my awesome wardrobe to find your best beach fit. Look out Barbie, I’ve got quite the closet too!

  • Channeling your inner cowboy and learning a line dance or two on my outdoor disco dance floor or performing a sunset serenade on my guitar

  • Challenging your fellow guests to a “beach off” with plenty of sunbathing and chillaxing by the infinity pool

  • Taking home a piece of my Kendom with your very own set of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and surfboard

It’s fantastic being made of plastic.
