Believe it or not, one of my favorite sightseeing activities is finding and loving all the cats that slink around quaint villages in seaside towns and delicately dangle off church steps as they snooze in the sunshine.
In Lima, Peru, there’s an actual cat park called Parque Kennedy, where a beautifully groomed plot of land filled with flora and fauna offers the perfect oasis for cats to meet with their human visitors. Sign. Me. Up.Â

United Airlines' massive expansion into the South Pacific
|
I’m sad to say my travels have yet to take me to the South Pacific—but maybe the push I need is a great flight deal. Here’s hoping United’s big news will come with big deals for your girl.Â
United Airlines has partnered with Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia to offer one-stop connections to nearly 50 destinations in the region—making it the largest carrier between the US and the South Pacific.Â
San Francisco to Christchurch
United will launch its first-ever direct service to Christchurch, New Zealand from San Francisco on December 1, offering three nonstop flights per week. The airline will be the only nonstop flight to New Zealand's South Island from the US.
Los Angeles to Auckland and Brisbane
United already operates daily service from San Francisco to Auckland and it’s adding a second flight to New Zealand's largest city during peak season. Starting on October 28, the airline will connect LA with Auckland on a seasonal basis with up-to-two daily flights between the cities.
Last year, United launched its first-ever service to Brisbane, Australia, with a new route from San Francisco. Starting November 29, the airline is adding another flight to the Aussie city from LA and it will operate three times a week.Â
United’s partnership with Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia
United’s expansion in the South Pacific has been made possible due to partnerships with two of the most significant players in the South Pacific aviation market: Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia. The airlines' reciprocal frequent flyer perks and expanded codeshare agreements allow for more routes and simplified operations.
If you're on the lookout for flight deals to these destinations, I suggest signing up for Dollar Flight Club. I just found a deal from LA to Brisbane for a flight in September for only $750!

Space out with this week’s hybrid solar eclipse
|
It took me approximately 20-something years to see a shooting star, so often I feel a bit hopeless when it comes to magical, once-in-a-lifetime celestial events. But thanks to technology, I now know I can at least hop on the live stream train.Â
What’s a rare hybrid eclipse?Â
Set to occur on Thursday, April 20, 2023, the rare hybrid solar eclipse transitions from a ring-shaped, or annular, eclipse to a total solar eclipse and then back again as the shadow of the moon moves over Earth. Hybrid solar eclipses only occur a few times per century, making this a rare and much-anticipated event.
Where to watch the eclipse
The eclipse will be visible from the South Pacific, with the moon’s shadow moving over Western Australia, East Timor, and Indonesia starting at 9:36 pm EDT on April 19, 2023, and ending at 2:59 am EDT on April 20, 2023.
If you don’t live in the Southern Hemisphere, you can still view the eclipse on several websites—a surefire way to stay put like me while ensuring astonishment. Time and Date will be live streaming the event on its YouTube channel starting at 9:30 pm EDT on April 19, 2023. The Gravity Discovery Centre & Observatory will host its own live stream starting at 10 pm EDT on the center's YouTube channel.
Mark your calendars for next year’s US eclipse
If your thirst for celestial events needs to be quenched further (and perhaps in person), you might want to start prepping for next year’s total solar eclipse, which will appear in the US on April 8, 2024. Areas in the path of totality include Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas in Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Cleveland, Ohio; and Buffalo and Rochester in New York. Plan ahead because these destinations will likely see an upcharge on hotels and flights.

The credit card that could get you up to 9 hotel nights free in Tokyo
|
As a newbie to the credit card game, I’ve been doing my due diligence to find what’s best for my lifestyle. I opened up the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card for its generous welcome bonus of 75,000 miles (worth up to $1,500) that can be banked after spending just $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.
With 75,000 Capital One miles, you can get up to 9 hotel nights covered in Tokyo or a roundtrip flight from the US to Europe on Air France or Virgin Atlantic, for free. Either way, you’ll save thousands on your next trip. Plus, the annual fee is only $95.Â
Here’s everything you need to know about the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

| THE ESSENTIALS
|
I’m very much into looking "put together" these days. From luggage to athleisure, it’s entirely satisfying to at least look like I'm not racing the clock and getting lost. Here’s what I’m taking on my trip to Europe this month.Â
If my luggage matches, no one can tell I’m in a mad dash to catch my flight, right? I purchased this chic expandable backpack in beige to pair with my beige suitcase—all from Beis!Â
I’m going to look good being cozy, whether it’s on a plane, train, or stuffed in a two-seater car. This nautical three-piece set screams vacation made, and allows all the movement athleisure is known for.Â
I love the chic-meets-cozy look and feel of cashmere, but it’s so expensive. I stumbled upon this $50 Mongolian cashmere crewneck sweater, however, and now I’ll be sporting it in various colors.Â
I want to look effortlessly put together all day long, even if I’ve walked 12-plus miles on cobblestone. This elegant linen flutter sleeve dress with side pockets and a waist tie provides functional practicality and feminine flair for the perfect long day out.Â
