New Company Capitalizes on TikTok for Travel Deal-Finding Tool
|
TikTok is the gift that keeps on giving, offering new ideas that people haven’t thought of before and can change their lives, or at least their trip planning.
Inspired by a viral TikTok travel trend, Directo, a new startup, is helping travelers find deals through a Chrome extension that directs users to property websites, often offering discounted rates because the property avoids commission fees.
💻 How does it work?
Directo uses reverse image search to find property websites, simplifying the process by identifying properties with secure checkout systems. By booking directly, travelers can often save on a lot of hidden fees that third parties charge. Users can also submit and flag websites offering great deals. With approximately 200,000 hospitality brands featuring at least one property, there are significant potential savings on accommodations you’d already be booking.
If you think about it, Directo operates similarly to Honey, the browser extension that automatically locates and applies coupon codes at checkout, but for millions of properties and rooms worldwide. Happy saving!

New Bill Signed to Boost Tourism in Hawaii
|
Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to Hawaii in recent years, with fires devastating parts of the islands and other natural disasters affecting local communities. Governor Josh Green has signed a new bill aimed at boosting tourism and improving Hawaii's economy.
This new plan for Hawaii's visitor industry aims to promote regenerative tourism with a smaller ecological footprint. It includes implementing policies to reduce impacts on beaches, reefs, and ocean life, protect cultural and natural resources, engage local businesses in tourism, diversify the economy beyond tourism, and empower residents through job training and career opportunities within the tourism industry.
🌺 How can we help as tourists?
As visitors to Hawaii, we can positively contribute by following this guide to responsible tourism while exploring the islands. Supporting eco-friendly activities and local businesses, opting for local food and souvenirs, and volunteering at places like the Maui Food Bank are all ways to contribute to community well-being and sustainability. These simple actions help preserve the beauty and culture of this unique corner of the world.
