Is there a destination more divisive than Las Vegas?
Sin City’s reputation as a debauchery-laced playground precedes it, annually drawing thousands of eager bachelors and bachelorettes and dissuading those of a calmer persuasion.
But it needn’t sow as much discord. Amidst the gambling, the gaudy glamor, and rambunctious nightlife, there’s a rainbow of family-friendly spectacle, world-class dining, and even the opportunity to explore the raw power of nature.
Take a bet on Vegas.
You might be surprised to see that the odds are in your favor when you roll dice.

Your Guide to the Best of Las Vegas
|
🎰 What to do
It’s called Sin City for a reason: casinos, nightlife, and an array of opportunities to make bad decisions have defined Vegas for decades. But there’s so much more to experience, whether it’s thrill rides on the edge of a skyscraper, catching one of the world-class residencies, or getting out to the desert. Here are the best things to do in Las Vegas.
😋 What to eat
Of course, you need to get your fill at one of Vegas’ famous (or infamous) buffets–there’s nothing like it–but don’t miss out on the glittering array of more traditional restaurants at your disposal. And yes, it’s fine to visit one of the crazier concept restaurants, too. Here are the best places to eat in Las Vegas.
🏩 Where to stay
If you’d asked us a few years ago, we’d tell you to temper your expectations of Vegas hotels. Despite being world famous, many of them were showing their age. But recent revamps and a host of entirely new properties have breathed some much-needed life into the scene. Here are the best places to stay in Las Vegas.

| LAS VEGAS FAST FACTS
|
🟩 Greener pastures: Believe it or not, Las Vegas’ name means “the meadows.” Back when Rafael Rivera named it, the region was covered with vibrant green fields and rolling hills. But the springs were pumped dry and left it a desert.
😎 The bright side: The Las Vegas strip is the brightest place on earth. Its dazzling lights can be seen from space.
👰 Newlywed in Vegas: It’s no surprise that there are a ton of weddings in Vegas–over 300 a day on average, in fact. The most famous is the Graceland Wedding Chapel, where the lucky couple is married by none other than the King himself.
🎰 It’s lost its gambling crown: While most of us associate gambling with Vegas more than anywhere else, it’s the autonomous Chinese colony of Macau that takes the top prize. It grabbed the title in 2019 and isn’t letting go anytime soon.

| KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
|
|
It’s Bigger Than You Assume
|
The Las Vegas Strip is the buzzing nucleus of any visit to the city. But while you may think a straightforward boulevard would be a breeze to navigate, the scale might take you by surprise.
The strip itself clocks in at around 4.2 miles, meaning a walk from the Strat at end one to somewhere at the opposite side like Mandalay Bay, could take a long time. After considering the distance, factor in the steady crowds blocking the sidewalks, crosswalks that take an age, and the incessant attractions, and you’ve got a recipe for a missed reservation.
The upside is that the bulk of your time will be spent on this one road, so it’s almost impossible to get properly lost. Just look for the Eiffel Tower if you get confused–that puts you back in the center of everything.
|
Taxis Can Be a Nightmare
|
If you feel like being ignored at the side of the road, try and hail a Vegas cab. It’s not because they’re rude–it’s just illegal for cabs and other ride-sharing services to pick anyone up on the street.
Instead, you’ll have to hop in line at one of the designated pick-up and drop-off points. The major downsides are obvious, but these issues are multiplied at peak times. If you’ve just finished a show or it's dinner time, maybe grab another drink and wait out the masses.
It’s also worth checking with your airport taxi driver that he’s not taking the highway route and charging you $10 extra.
|
Use Your Hotel’s Contacts
|
If you’re in Vegas to party, make friends with your hotel concierge.
The city’s club and party scene is spectacular, but, as with many similar scenes, events can be exclusive and complicated to gain access to. Worse still, with so many options, you might find yourself getting lured into a dud experience by a good salesman.
A quick chat with your concierge could save you a bad night. They can direct you to the best clubs and parties, score you discounts, and even get you pushed to the top of the guest list. It’s no guarantee, but it's always worth your time.
