US tightens restrictions for incoming travelers
Heads up if you've got an international trip planned.
In response to the emergence of the omicron variant and approaching winter, the White House is making changes to current policies for travelers arriving or returning to the US.
Starting next week, all travelers, regardless of vaccination status, will have to produce a negative Covid test taken within one day of their departure. Both PCR and antigen tests will be accepted.
The government is also extending the federal mask mandate for airports, planes, trains, and public transportation to March 18.
There are no changes to quarantine requirements at this time.

Biden's plan: No lockdowns, no new mandates
On Thursday, President Biden laid out his plan to fight Covid during the upcoming winter. Speaking at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland, he specifically stated that the government would not be implementing new lockdowns or expanding vaccination requirements. "It doesn't involve shutdowns or lockdowns, but widespread vaccinations, and boosters, and testing and a lot more," Biden
said. “And while my existing federal vaccination requirements are being reviewed by the courts, this plan does not expand or add to those mandates,” the President added. The plan will also include free at-home covid tests.Private insurance companies will be required to cover 100% of the cost of at-home coronavirus tests. The administration will also distribute 50 million free tests to health centers and rural clinics for underserved and uninsured people.

Germany puts major restrictions on the unvaccinated
As countries around the world tighten restrictions to slow the spread of Covid, Germany is fighting its most severe
surge thus far by imposing major restrictions on unvaccinated residents. The new restrictions will effectively bar unvaccinated people from entering all businesses except for those deemed essential, such as pharmacies and grocery stores. Officials also agreed to pass legislation that will make vaccinations mandatory, likely by February of next year. Elsewhere in Europe, France will now require non-EU travelers to submit a negative Covid test in order to enter the country, regardless of vaccination status.
