South Korea Launches Digital Nomad Visa
|
South Korea: Where your dreams of kimchi by day and karaoke by night can finally come true with a new visa program. The new "workation visa" allows digital nomads to live and work in the country for up to two years; previously, most tourists were limited to 90-day stays.
🇰🇷 Visa requirements
You must be a remote worker employed by a foreign company
Earn an income at least double South Korea’s gross national income per capita from the previous year (approximately $64,000 for 2023)
A minimum of one year in your current industry
Proof of health insurance and a clean criminal record
📄 How do I apply?
Eligible remote workers can apply at a South Korean consular office abroad or from within the country. Required documents for the visa appointment include a completed application form, a valid passport, a certificate of employment, proof of income, a criminal record certificate, health insurance coverage of at least $75,065, and proof of familial relationship for any accompanying family members. Accepted applicants may be accompanied by a spouse and children under 18, with no additional visas required.
South Korea also plans to introduce a K-culture training visa, capitalizing on the global phenomenon of the "Korean Wave" or "Hallyu," which highlights the growing popularity of South Korean culture worldwide. This visa will provide education and training opportunities for young enthusiasts, connecting them with the nation's entertainment industry.
